AgriLand: Linking agriculture and land use change to pollinator populations

About AgriLand

While there is mounting evidence for the decline of pollinator populations and the wild flowers they forage from, it is not yet clear whether pollinator declines are driving flower losses or vice versa. In addition, although a number of human-induced causes are suspected to be behind pollinator declines, the relative importance of each potential driver is still unclear which jeopardises our ability to halt such declines and improve natural pollination services. The consequences of pollinator declines could be severe including declines in plant and crop productivity.

AgriLand is a project that aims to provide some of the evidence required to address these problems. The main aims of the project are to:

AgriLand is in partnership with Professor Jane Memmott at the University of Bristol, Dr Nigel Boatman and Dr Giles Budge at Defra's Food and Environment Research Agency, Dr Dan Morton and Dr Simon Smart at the NERC Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and Dr Simon Potts at the University of Reading. The work is funded by the UK Insect Pollinators Initiative. Click on “People” above or “IPI” to the right to find out more.
